Kofte

In light of  Thanksgiving, we thought we’d bring to the table — Turkey! No, not turkey turkey like the gobble gobble white meat served with your gravy and cranberry sauce, but Turkey.. the country!

More specifically — Köfte — a Turkish version of the meatball from Sultanahmet Köftecisi. This no-frills restaurant grounds up spiced beef and lamb, then grills them over wood fire through a skewer. Served with butter rice, a baguette and white bean salad. Simple and scrumptious.

What’s not scrumptious? Ayran! You’ll see almost everyone drinking an Ayran with their meal. But one sip and I knew this salty & bitter yoghurt drink was not for me AT ALL. Still.. The meat is delicious. Be sure you visit the original as there are 3 koftecisi joints on the same block.
